The National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP) has announced the launch of the first-ever National Awareness Week for Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs), taking place from 17th March 2025. This initiative aims to highlight the crucial role BCRPs play in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in towns and cities across the UK.
What is a BCRP?
It surprising to learn that some people don’t know what a BCRP is as they play such a vital role in low level crime and anti-social behaviour strategies across the UK.
BCRPs are usually a subscription or members-based organisations that bring together local businesses, the police, and local authorities to tackle crime collaboratively. They utilise real-time intelligence sharing, crime prevention strategies, and coordinated enforcement measures to deter offenders and create safer environments.
BCRPs vary in size and structure but commonly employ a Crime Reduction Manager, operate a two-way radio network, and use specialist crime intelligence software to track and prevent criminal activity.
How SentrySIS supports BCRPs
A key technology partner in supporting crime partnerships across the UK is SentrySIS, a leading provider of crime intelligence and reporting solutions. Their secure, cloud-based platform enables BCRPs to collect, analyse, and share intelligence seamlessly with national retailers, security teams, and local police constabularies. By providing access to all these stakeholders, it significantly improves the collective crime prevention efforts.
5 Key Benefits of SentrySIS for Crime Partnerships
SentrySIS provides BCRPs with a range of powerful tools to enhance their crime-fighting capabilities:
National retailers who are part of a BCRP can report incidents to their scheme administrators and access up-to-date intelligence on offenders, enabling faster and more proactive way to deal with low level crime.
SentrySIS can generate digital evidence packs that can be submitted directly to participating police constabularies that include CCTV footage and witness statements, streamlining the prosecution process.
BCRPs can mark offenders with exclusion notices, ensuring repeat offenders are excluded from entire retail areas.
The SentrySIS platform connects all stakeholders through a centralised digital hub, accessible via both desktop and mobile devices, ensuring information is always available.
BCRPs can leverage detailed crime trend analysis to identify repeat offenders, hotspot areas, and emerging threats, allowing for proactive policing and crime prevention strategies.
Sophie Jordan, CEO at the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships, emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating:
“Most towns and cities in the UK are supported by a local BCRP, yet their highly effective work to keep communities safe is widely unknown outside the immediate industry sector. The Awareness Week seeks to change this by showcasing the complex and holistic approach to crime prevention provided by BCRP methodology.”
BCRPs also play significant roles across local, regional and national safety initiatives, such as Safe Spaces, Ask for Angela, Best Bar None, Safer Business Week and other coordinated police operations. These partnerships demonstrate the importance of BCRP’s and their approach to keeping staff and customers safe, whilst identifying vulnerable individuals who may be involved in retail crime.
